Religion The Seventh grade has completed the majority of its curriculum for the year with the completion of their study of the life and legacy of Jesus Christ. We are currently reviewing our study of the Sacraments from earlier in the year and focusing on the “Order of the Mass”. We will finish off the school year with a brief look at the passion and try to address any unanswered questions that students might have about our savior. Literature The Seventh grade Reading class has spent the last month or so reading Myths of the Ancient Greeks and Romans along with several Folk Tales. Our most recent readings have includes “The Twelve Labors of Hercules”, “Aschenputtel” and several other “Cinderella “ stories from around the world. We will close out the year with “Master Frog”, “Sealskin, Soulskin” and “The Hummingbird King”
Science The Seventh grade is finishing its study of the Environment with presentations on the world’s energy resources. Most students chose to use power point presentation with very cool video clips to get the story of their assigned resource across to classmates. Nicely Done!!
We will be closing out the year with a brief trip through Geological time.
Many of the pictures below are from our recent trip to the Discovery World Museum. A shocking experience for many of the students as you can see. The trip was a blast and I strongly recommend a visit if you find yourself with nothing to do on a rainy day this summer!!
Geography Our Geography Studies have traveled across much of the globe. The second half of the fourth quarter found us studying Sub-Saharan Africa. I was amazed at how well the class did on their test demonstrating their knowledge of the countries of West Africa, usually the toughest test of the year. In the final weeks we will be looking at the cultures and countries found in East and Southern Africa. World History 8th Grade The Eighth Grade World History students rounded out the year with some of the best presentations I have seen in my days at St. Charles. Many of them lasted an entire class period. They included lecture, Power Points, video clips and homemade videos. The topic of the presentations was a look at the non-European world between 500-1500 AD. After following the development of human civilization from its beginnings on through the Dark Ages, I thought it would be a good idea to look at where the rest of the world was at as Europe worked its way into the Renaissance and Age of Exploration. It is my hope that they could see that most of mankind already knew that the world was round!! American History 6th Grade The Sixth Grade American History class has just completed its study of World War II. During the unit students created WWII Monopoly games to help them remember significant places and names from the conflict. We will round out the year with a look at the Cold War and some of its conflicts as well as a brief look into the Civil Rights movement and the 1970’s.
